Day 1
Departure from Panama City to Sambu from Albrook Airport (the community is not accessible by road). Installation in our accommodation in Sambu. We will then explore Puerto Indio, headquarters of the Embera Comarca of Sambu. Preparation of the expedition for the following day. Diner and overnight in Sambu (D).
Day 2
After breakfast, departure to Pavarando. Our trip will last 6 to 8 hours, along the Sambu River, on a long, narrow dug-out canoe built to face the many rapids of the river. In the dry season, when the river is shallow, we may have to get into the water and help push the canoe. Lunch on the bank of the river. We will be arriving at Pavarando in the late afternoon and will be received by the local Embera leader. Setting up of our hammocks in a traditional Embera house. Diner prepared by Embera women (D, A, C).
Day 3
After breakfast, departure in dug-out canoe and hike in the forest with our Embera guides, fishing in the river and picnic at the fishing spot. In the afternoon, we will return to the village where we will get to know Embera traditions and culture, as well as the famous chunga baskets and handicrafts. Diner and overnight in the village (D, A, C).
Day 4
Alter breakfast, we will leave in dug-out canoe back to Sambu. Depending on how dry the river is, we may have to walk through the village of Villa Keresia. Diner and overnight in Sambu(D, A, C)
Day 5
Alter breakfast, we will leave by foot with our guides and carriers (2 per tourist) for a 6-hour hike through the forest, crossing rivers and going up mountains. The participants must be in good physical condition. A camp will be previously set up in the forest for us to spend the night. Overnight in hammocks, under mosquito nets and canvas in case of rain. It is more an expedition than just a promenade.
Day 6
Breakfast at the camp and early departure to finish climbing up the Sapo Mountain. We will then arrive at Playa Muerto, and Embera community located on a beautiful beach of the Pacific ocean. Diner in the village and overnight in hammocks in a traditional Embera house.
Day 7
Day of rest and fun with our Embera guests: fishing, chatting and promenade…Lunch and diner in the village, and overnight in hammocks in a traditional Embera house
Day 8
Breakfast and early departure (in a motor boat) to Garachine, where we will take our flight back to Panama City.
Departures only Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
