Day 1

We depart from Panama City early in the morning, shortly after breakfast, on the Pan-American Highway towards Colombia.  Along the way, we will stop for a short coffee/lunch break.  Once we enter the Darien province, the paved road ends and we begin the rough 4X4 terrain.   Later, we will board piragua (dug-out canoes) to the Wounaan Village of Boca de Lara.  The Wounaan are very curious about us, just as we are about them, and will tend to hang around to observe and see the newcomers.  Early afternoon we will tempt our luck at fishing like the locals.  Traditional lunch will be served at the lodge.  Later, we will discover the wonders of the mangroves in piraguas.    Overnight at Dossi Lodge (L, D)

Day 2

Shortly after breakfast, we will depart on a short trek into the nearby mountains to the location of a former American base. Our trek through the rainforest will bring us up close to some of nature’s most amazing flora and fauna.  Our Indian guide will also show us some of the interesting herds they use and WHY! As dusk approaches, we will have the opportunity to see the local crafts and dances. Overnight at Dossi Lodge (B, L, D)

Day 3

After a hearty breakfast, we will towards Puerto Kimba by 4X4.  Here we will board a “panga” outboard boat, which will take us to discover the Golfo de San Miguel; it’s Spanish forts, La Palma (Darien’s capital) and with some luck we’ll see some dolphins.  Lunch at La Palma. Some of the birds that you may observe here are: pelicans, ibis, herons, frigates and kingfisher.  In the late afternoon, we will retire to the Filo del Tallo Lodge. Overnight at Filo del Tallo Lodge (B, L, D)

Day 4

We explore the Filo del Tallo, a hydrographic reserve, very rich in flora and fauna.  In the early afternoon, we have lunch at a local “colonos” farm and begin our return trip to Panama City (B, L)
